The Institute of Functional Medicine describes this “biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease.”
Using this approach, we take an in-depth look at your current and past health concerns. We begin with a thorough personal, family, social, and medical history, potentially including local lab work to look for signs of pathological changes or dysfunctional responses. You will then be given personally guided approach to lifestyle, diet, exercise changes along with targeted supplements to begin your journey of healing.
Additional testing may be suggested to include food sensitivity testing, GI testing, and/or hormone testing. It is important to us that this investigation is accessible so we do try to avoid blanket testing to keep costs lower.
Dr. Larissa has been practicing chiropractic on the Gulf Coast for 20 years. After years of seeing headaches and hormone issues in her patients and in herself, she began to explore another approach to helping women.
The traditional medical model was failing at listening and seeking the root cause of the issues she saw everyday in practice. She began studies with The Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) and The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) in 2018, working towards certification from IFM.
Her practice has evolved to include chiropractic care paired with an individualized approach to wellness. Your Functional Wellness plan may include traditional and specialized lab testing, a nutrition plan, a focus on mind-body connection, and a targeted nutritional supplement protocol. The goal is to restore optimal function in your body while addressing the root cause to your symptoms.
Laiken has been studying integrative and functional diagnostic nutrition since 2019, but started with her own personal experience in 2009. As someone who dealt with anxiety, depression and several gut issues, she understands wanting to have a practitioner listening through concerns and helping guide to find the root cause to those symptoms.
Through the years, she has gained personal experience in non-toxic living, nutrition, and overall wellness and decided to pursue further education through the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition program. She considers her role as functional nutritionist as the health detective for her clients.
In collaboration with Dr. Larissa, she helps clients reveal underlying causes of metabolic chaos by using functional labs and blood work and then using clinical correlation from those results to help coach up function.
She helps do this by helping them through the a bio-individual approach to diet, rest, exercise, stress management, and supplement protocol they can use to help support their body through innate healing ability. She loves being able to help people feel better and loves the all encompassing approach that Functional Medicine provides!
